This "phenomenon" is also called the "Korean Wave" where the Korean culture increases its popularity in other countries in Asia and in the other parts of the world.
Pre-modern K-Pop is greatly influenced by Japanese music and later it was greatly affect by the western music culture. The current style of K-Pop is influenced by English Pop songs including the "Britney 90's Pop" or Bubblegum Pop. The main difference from English groups is Korean Groups does not disband which is very evident in English pop groups like Spice Girls.
Hearing K-pop fanatics and supporters are very good because for K-pop artists because they easily know that their music is very popular to people and people likes their style.
The only downfall of K-Pop is when the authentic culture of a country disappears and starts to change. Just like here in the Philippines, in my opinion, Filipinos are now having the so-called "Identity Crisis" because we are heavily influenced by these subcultures that we easily call as our own. In short, because of these subcultures, we are forgetting what is our original culture that we need to live by as true blooded Filipinos. We forget about our own Filipino music because we really like listening to K-Pop rather than listening to what is our own.
Well, whatever culture blah-blah's is happening, one thing must be kept in our minds and in our hearts, we need to remember what our real culture is and we need to start taking action about this. Korean culture is good, but forgetting about the real essence of being a Filipino is very bad.
Enough ranting, ;P
